City of Walnut Creek, California, USA (Community Circles Month begins October 1st)

  • Contra Costa CROP Walk, Sunday October 2, 1pm, Walnut Creek Civic Park. Local beneficiaries of this walk are STAND Against Domestic Violence and Fresh Start. Contact Poly Smith-Telfer at 925-256-9992 or polly.smith@cbre.com for information about becoming a sponsored walker.

  • Argentine Tango Thursday Evening 7:30-8:30. Beginning course 10/20 through 12/8. Learn this dramatic dance and open a whole new world of recreation.   • Tuesdays: Walking Buddies 8am. One to 1 1/2 hour walks rain or shine every Tuesday. Meet in the lobby of the Walnut Creek Senior’s Club at Civic Park, 1375 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek. Info: Maureen 256-0690.
  • Thursdays: Walking Buddies 8am. Rain or shine. Walks are 2- 3 hours in length. Group carpool to area locations for these more challenging outings. Meet in the lobby of the Walnut Creek Senior’s Club at Civic Park, 1375 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek. Info: Maureen, 256-0690.
  • Walnut Creek Tennis Club for Single Adults Meets Tues. & Thurs. nights and Sat. & Sun. mornings. Free club and drop-in tennis. 2.5-3.5 level. Rusty OK. Coed. Adult singles. All ages. at Las Lomas High School or Pleasant Hill Community Center.
  • Drop-in Volleyball Friday nights:7-10pm. Open to the first 60 participants. Tice Valley Community Gymnasium, Walnut Creek. Info: 256-3572.

  • Light the Night Walk Fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Walkers carry softlylighted balloons – each one a beacon of hope for the millions of people affected by cancer. Civic Park, Walnut Creek. October 9th, 5pm registration. Registration & Info: 800-810-CURE
  • Men's Waterpolo Delta Tri-Valley Masters Diablo Valley College, Pleasant Hill, CA. October 23, 11am
  • PH DOG Owners Group A non-profit organization which works with Pleasant Hill Parks and Recreation Department to maintain the fenced Paso Nogal dog exercise area; to inform users that their responsibilities are to obey park rules, clean up after dogs, keep dogs on-leash until they are within the fenced area; and keep dogs under voice control.   • Pleasant Hill Garden Study Club Join us at 7 pm on the first Tuesday of each month (except July & December) at the P.H. Community Center, 320 Civic Dr. Guests are welcome. Speakers, plant displays, garden tours, and a monthly newsletter, the Flower Press. Beginning gardeners can learn from experienced members.   • Society of Young Magicians This young-member Society of American Magicians for youth, 7–17 years, meets from 7 to 8:30 pm on the fourth Monday of the month at the Winslow Center, Room 2, 2590 Pleasant Hill Rd. Goals of the program include providing magic as a wholesome outlet for youth; building self-esteem, confidence, and friendships. For information / questions: Loren Lind, 825-5040.
  • Treadles to Threads A spinning guild which meets at 7:30 pm on the last Wednesday of the month at the Winslow Center Assembly Room, 2590 Pleasant Hill Rd.
